TITLE: Social Worker
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide supportive services and resources for students and families in overcoming barriers to learning; to promote positive working relationships among and between staff, families, and other agencies; and to coordinate internal and external services to students and families.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES: (essential functions)
- Counsels students and families on topics such as problem solving skills, parenting skills, substance abuse, family violence, teenage pregnancy, and other related topics
- Provides information to facilitate the family’s use of community resources for meeting housing, clothing, nutritional, and health needs
- Provides short-term crisis intervention to students, staff, and families
- Assists with coordination of activities and programs for homeless and migrant families
- Assists families with understanding their children’s needs and the resources available within the school and community
- Helps students overcome barriers to school attendance and achievement
- Assists students and their families with exploring alternative educational programs and career options
- Serves as a liaison between schools and local high schools to support student transitions
- Assists teachers and staff with program implementation (eg: Kids At Hope, peer mediation, bully prevention, ECAP, tobacco prevention)
- Maintains records of counseling and consulting contacts
- Cooperates with outside agencies and other student support services personnel within the District, as applicable
- Makes home visits as needed, in consultation with supervisor
- Serves as a liaison between homes and schools
- Provides identification and referral service for students having emotional, health, and/or learning problems which are beyond the resources of the local school
- Seeks grants for resources and services for students and families
- Attends staff and district meetings, as required
- Performs other duties as may be assigned

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
State certified/licensed
Three years of experience working in an environment with children (school experience preferred)

Fluent in Spanish
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: A master’s degree in social work or counseling is required. Social worker certification through ADE. Valid State of Arizona Driver’s License
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten, eleven or twelve month. Salary and work year to be
established by the Board. Telecommute eligibility established by the Governing Board in accordance to Policies GCC & GDD.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
